Straus Looks Forward After 30 Years

The Straus Institute has just completed its 30th year, and since its founding, the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) field and organizations have undergone considerable change. In 1986, Randy Lowry titled the program “The Institute for Dispute Resolution and Professional Lawyering Skills” because he wanted a fallback position if the dispute resolution movement proved to be a passing fad. At that time, the ADR movement and the Straus Institute were fighting for credibility and to define a lasting contribution and legacy. As we enter a new era, both ADR and the Straus Institute have gained a measure of competency and maturity that permit observations about the future of this institution and field.
