Via the William Jessup University announcement:
William Jessup University is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Fera as the University’s General Counsel, Vice President of Special Projects. This is the first time in Jessup’s 80-year history that the University has sought a legal professional in its executive leadership – a sign of the tremendous growth the University has been blessed with in recent years, as well as the challenges of being a private faith-based university in California.
Scott comes to Jessup from Educational Media Foundation (parent company to the K-LOVE/Air1 media networks), where he served as Senior Counsel since 2016 and provided specialized counsel on matters concerning contracts, regulatory compliance, departmental policies, 1st Amendment/Religious Liberty, HR, music licensing, intellectual property, New Media innovation, and litigation management. Prior to his role at EMF, Scott had extensive background in governmental and non-profit legal settings, having worked as Deputy County Counsel for Sacramento County where he prosecuted over 400 severe child abuse and neglect cases, provided advice & counsel to a number of departments, and advised several boards and commissions. He has lectured at UC Davis School of Law on Child Welfare, Nonprofit issues, and the Media and will be teaching “Media Law & Ethics” in Jessup’s burgeoning Digital Media & Communication undergraduate program.
Scott received his Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine Law in 2001. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2001 and the California Bar in 2002. Scott and his wife, Megan (a fellow Pepperdine Law alumnus – 2003), met and married at Pepperdine; they have three children – ages 11, 9, and 7.
